Just got the Recall notice

It looks like my car is affected by the most recent recall. According to the notice, the problem is the ECM which may cause the engine to stop running. They claim that a reprograming of the ECM will fix it, which can be done in about an hour.  Is this bs, or is there a more serious problem that they haven't disclosed yet?  The build date is Jul/Aug 2002.

Re: Just got the Recall notice

I have an 03 and recieved the same letter from Nissan.  I scheduled and appt. and dropped it off.  After I got it back it was idling high and running shitty.  So I took it back and they said that the reflash didnt "stick" so they did it 2 more times and it runs like it always did before I brought it in.  Anyways I would reccomend dong it because if the engine did shut off on you you will lose pwr steering/brakes etc...crash..............Good luck:ninjaknife:

Re: Just got the Recall notice

I took the car to the stealership for the recall around 9am.  The recall wasn't done til 3pm. Now, there were other 2.5 Altimas there, so I'm guessing they were busy with recalls.  Anyway, the service advisor told me that this reprogramming of the ECM will probably happen again in 2 or 3 years.  Anyone hear something similar?  I didn't notice any increase in power but I did notice that the car idles around 1500, then slowly goes down to 750. This happens everytime I put the car in neutral.  Also, I reved the engine (in nuetral) to ~3500 and it fell to 1250 and stayed there for a few seconds, then went back down to 750.  Is this suppose to happen?

Re: Just got the Recall notice

I have a 02 Spec V and took it in for the same recall on the 25th and they said that another recall for the foam around the ECM needed to be replaced. It only took about an hour. Runs the same as before I put in the Injen cold air intake. No problem with the shuting off prior though.

Re: Just got the Recall notice

I got my notice when I got home.  I am a little worried to take it to the monkeys at the dealership due to my history with them.  Also I keep hearing horror stories involving ecu reflashes.  I guess i have will take it as they are liable.  Plus if it drives odd or idles rough heads will role and they will fix it. Oh yes, they will fix it.
