How to: Install Mach 1 Lip

Hardware:
2 People
Clamps
Drill
Universal Push Pins, you can buy from an autoparts store for about 5 bux for 15, they look like the ones that hold the bumpers in place. and theya re in the shape of a xmas tree.
1/4 drill bit according to size of pushpins you can.
Sheers, Tin snips,(I used my moms cooking sheers, damn those commercials werent lying when they said it could cut through aluminum) or any other plastic cutting tool.
Jack
Jack Stands

Howto:

Depending on how your car is lowered you may need to either jack it up from the front or the sides. I did mine from the front and i'm lowered on tein springs and on 16x7 rims. it was a very very very close fit taking the jack out but it worked.

If you buy the one from mustang site you will have to cut it to bumper size b/c you will notice it is a little too long. this is where 2 people come in handy. align it correctly to your bumper evenly, and mark where it needs to be cut off on both ends. once you mark it then you can make the cuts. keep on cutting to desired lenght of the bumper if the first one wasn't good enough. but remember, cut less then cut more b/c if you cut too much it wont be flush at the ends. Once you get the desired length you can start bolting.

Clamp the mach1 lip onto the bumper so it's stationary in the desired position you would like. when mounting the mach1 you will want to make some slits on the flap that connets to the bumper so it bends very easily and can be bent in a better angle then before it was cut. i did 4 slits. 1 on each far side of the lip and 2 in the near middle.

Bolting is easy. You want to start off in the middle of the lip and work your way out. take your drill bit, dpeneding on the size of your pushpins.i think i used a 1/4" but test them out anyways on pieces that you cut off and use one of your pushpines to push it through it. make sure it's a snug fit. now get under the car and start drilling. you will notice that with a good drill the holes are created in a second. our bumpers are not very thick. and just push the pin through the hole. the trick here to get it nice and flush on from the lip to the bumper is to drill the holes as close tot he area where the drill holed flap meets the front part that you can see on the outside, that way it's close flush to the bumper. what i did was bolt in the holes provided by the mach1 and it wasn't 100% flush looking in someparts to the bumper in the front of the lip. however it came out looking great and you would have to get on your knees and look at it. can't tell from a distance. i'll eventually go in there and fix it but not a eye soar. Start from the middle and work your way around moving the mach1 lip to desired position and making sure everything is aligned using your friends help on each side.

Now that it's all bolted up, make sure everything looks good, and you can start unclamping the lip, unjack the car, and remove the jackstands. Have a good feeling of installing something that easy and looks that good.

Pics. just for your dues =]

Re: How to: Install Mach 1 Lip

Man, this lip looks REALLY good on the 02-03's. I'm probably gonna have to do this when I get back from patrol. I'm also going to paint it like above but I'm gonna sand it smooth before I paint it. Looks good man. Thanks for the write up.

Re: How to: Install Mach 1 Lip

Just ordered mine and look forward to putting it on.  Man that thing looks like it was made for the specs.  Is it hard to put on by yourself because i usually do things alone.  Plus i dont know if I will be able to install it the day it comes so will it be a bad thing if it goes to it original shape?

Re: How to: Install Mach 1 Lip

Just put it on and it looks badass!  Took a little longer than i thought because i was by myself.  Anyone doing this , it helps to have two people for sure.  I had to redrill a few holes but it looks tits.  Anyone with the 02-03 front ends owes it to themselves to get this.  It completes the front end.

Re: How to: Install Mach 1 Lip

Yes, because you need to be able to see very well.  Plus unless you have a close quarters drill you will need the added height to drill the holes.  Another tip: I ended up taking out some of the shotty fasteners supplied with it and used 1/4 bolts with keps nuts.  I used 4 in spots where I wanted a tighter fit than the plastic p.o.s's could give.  The bolts don't need to be long, I think mine are like an inch and you could also use nylon inserted nuts.  Good luck.

Re: How to: Install Mach 1 Lip

^^ Stangmods sells it 5 bucks cheaper than american muscle.  Plus if you decide to use the little screws supplied, theirs are better as well.  So buy it through Stangmods.  Or you could get the nismo one.  Not really a fan of it myself but to each their own........

Re: How to: Install Mach 1 Lip

hey folks
so other than,
clamp and line it up/adjust
drill and screw it on

i had some questions in regards to installing the lip onto my 02 GXE bumper with 'relief cuts' on the sides as it seems to flare in oddly and the measurement of the mach 1 edges to the side of the bumper and also the distance in the front.
also have people used a thin piece of rubber to go between the bumper and lip as well as a 'spacer'
i searched and there wasn't anything on these questions and not to be anal but i got the new bumper here and i just wanted to make it right before going to the body shop for paint/install.
thanks folks

this is the look i am trying to achieve, looks perfect
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f66/djoxide/mnr2.jpg

here it seems like there is a space/spacer and the flare is there, maybe because of the year
