What kind of headgasket is used on the qg18de? Is it a cork headgasket or Multi-Layered Steel Headgasket? The reason for the question is if it is a MLS headgasket then we can easily remove one layer of steel from the headgasket to get a compression bump.

a cork head gasket? im dont know about that. I did alittle research on it and i was not able to determine 100% if its multi-layer or not, but it wasnt cork!

Ive replaced one with the factory nissan part, which was cork. What kind of research did you do?

I think you may have been mistaken man.... I have worked on cars for years, worked in a parts house for 2 years and done tons of head gaskets. Cork is simply not a material that would be used for a head gasket. Maybe you are thinking of a valve cover gasket.

Then how do you define cork? I guess this gasket wasnt only cork, it had some kind of thin rubbery coating over some type of very soft flexible material that I assumed was cork wood. It definitely was not metal of any kind.

i know cork is used for many things...regardless of what its used for...i just don't see cork being effective as an head gasket....it may or may not be...
