POLL: Which big bore TB do you want?

Ok, alot of you know, i have an interesting set or projects on hand.  As i figure everything out, i post them here on MSV.  Well, after 2 months of testing, i have found 3 Big Bore Throttle Bodies that are compatable with our Drive by wire.  They are relatively readily available, HOWEVER, there is a problem.  Our Intake manifold is  65mm max opening (i think, i have the measurements of our stock TB and IM in a post from about 2 months ago).  So if you want a bigger TB, you are gonna need an adapter.  Looks like a The infamious Throttle body spacer, except its conical on the inside to direct air from a larger opening into out smaller diameter intake manifold opening.  Kinda like a small funnel inside this adaptor.

I will leave this poll up for 1 month, while i save up money to make a small quantity of adapters.  Then, hopefully with help of stitch, major, or rako, we can have them produced for everyone.

Also, i will not tell you what TBs are compatable, YET.  why?  because im working on having each one Dyno'ed.

This may not be the best mod for N/A but i hope it will help you guys that want a turbo as well.

Any questions and comments, please leave them here, and i will answer them, when i become available.

~dave

huh?  didnt know that.  the 73mm does make the intake noise like driving a Mack truck.  I love it.  I do feel more power, but i have a CVT, so im not sure if i lost low end, and moved it into the highend, or what, this is why im gonna have them dyno'ed.

Re: POLL: Which big bore TB do you want?

This sounds cool to me, I am definitely open for testing and I am not that far away from you if you wanted to meet half way, It would probably only be an hour drive if we met half way. Or shipping to me shouldn't be too bad.

What do you recommend for N/A gains based on your knowledge? Usually the larger the bore the more the power is shifted higher.

I will test any and all that you would like me to with comprehensive before and after, and maybe, MAYBE a confirmation dyno if I'm up for it smiley-smile

OK, just remember this will be here for a month.  I just dont have the funds available right now to accomplish this.  Most important thing is,  if there is a good discussion on this, which size is most benifical to everyone.  Then i can see about a prototype that you can test, other then just me.

also your right, you will usually get better top end power.  For me however, im always in the power band, since i have the automatic (CVT).  How it will effect your 6 speed manuals, i do not know.  Only a dyno can really tell for me.  And if you recall from my PM with you, i listed "Throttle Bodies".  I actually have 2 complelely different projects with Throttle bodies going on.  This is just the far easier one to organize.

At this point in time, i dont know.  I have each of the 3  throttle bodies, used, for about $50 each.  New, they are about $250-$350.  I believe it would be more cost effect to get used ones, Test each one to make sure they work, Clean them up, and install with the adapter.  The adapter, hopefully wont be more then $30-$40.  This however is an assumption. At current material cost, and free time (little to none), the price will fluctuate.  Considering i have a very low budget, I will make it as cost effective as possible, without sacrificing performance or reliablity.

Also, as with my other HOW-TO's, i will post one, eventually.  Most Likely following the same format of my Current how-to's.  Actually, if you look at my Hood Light mod, I purposely blurred the image, however you can see a few changes, include a slightly larger TB in there.

Re: POLL: Which big bore TB do you want?

I am interested in, but I do want to see dynosheets first. I like low end power vs high end power. Its the reason im not getting the 2.5" exhaust piping.

Very understandable.  This is why im gonna wait a while, so i can do the dyno's.

Re: POLL: Which big bore TB do you want?

hey dj...

send me or gavin an email,

we may be interested in this.

sounds like to jump up to a 73mm with all the bolt ons there would be an enormous amount of gains.

oh and btw... if you have ever heard a big bore throttle body on an ls1... it sounds like sex.

Re: POLL: Which big bore TB do you want?

I've actually considered this as an upgrade but I don't wanna do it until i  build the head (oversized valves, PnP, and maybe even a blueprinting for the header if/when it comes out).  I've been told by a few ppl that's the best route to go.  but for the mean time i have a buddy that's gonna bore my throttle body.  btw, what is the oem size of it.

Re: POLL: Which big bore TB do you want?

its pointless to put a bigger throttle body on a stock to lightly modded car. you need to have a lot of mods done and your car is going to just run the same unless you do some fuel mods or mod you ecu.

guess that helps with my question of this then.  I really don't know what the best after i do everything else would be anyways.
